about
This song was funded by Women's Environment Network (WEN) for a project as part of Local Women of the World for COP26 in Glasgow. The lyrics were greatly inspired by a poem written by Alex Laird about climate change and how we humans treat the world. Special thanks to Zarina Ahmad for making this possible. During COP26 all of the money made from this song will be donated to the Women's Environment Network & Gilded Lily Inspiring Enterprise CIC, both of which are organisations that help women to have a voice in terms of climate change issues and provide opportunities for women to actively participate in tackling climate change.
lyrics
No we can't go back, we've strayed too far from the path
This world is burning down, & Mother Nature's lost her crown, oh she can't see through sulphur clouds
And we who built the fires to fulfil our own desires
Must open up our eyes
before our time expires
Cause we can't see the damage done
Or the disasters yet to come
And all the things, we throw away, well they end up in another place
It's building up and we're burning down
Our forests to the ground
Oh this world is on fire
Oh how we crush her bones
As her rivers turn to stone
And we keep reaping what we've sewn
And those who suffer most
Are those who've been exposed
To our hunger and our greed
Cause we take, take, take more than we need
But will we see the damage done, before its burned under the sun?
And though, we can't go back
We can get on track, to make things better
We need your voices now
To speak up loud
Cause this world is on fire
